Increasing the Longevity of Your Pipes

Pipes are the main backbone of your plumbing system. They are core pieces through which the entire mechanism carries out. Now imagine the amount of work that they do daily, you use water for multiple things throughout the day.

We use water to wash dishes, wash, to mop the floors, wash hands, brush our teeth, and many other tasks. This roughly takes around 80 gallons of water. Now, if you do the math, you will realize the work that the pipes do daily.

This is why the plumbing system takes the most toll out of all the arrangements. The plumbing system gets eroded and the pipes wear out. But changing pipes can cost a lot. This is why it is essential to take care of them to increase their life.
In this article, we will discuss several ways through which you can increase the longevity of the pipes.

Use Water Wisely

This one is straightforward, if you are using up a massive amount of water, then your pipes are working a whole as well. If you want them to remain working, being mindful of your water usage might help.

Avoid Toilet Clogs

It might be a challenge when you are in a rush but throwing used toilet paper in the toilet can cause immense clogging, which results in damage and overflows. This, in turn, erodes the pipes and makes them vulnerable.

Prevent Sink And Shower Drain Clogs

The same goes for sinks and showers. Get rid of hair, food, and soap particles by cleaning after each use. An excessive amount of waste in the drains can make pipes prone to damage. Alternatively, you can also use a sink screen for easy cleanup.

Sidestep Clog-Removal Products

Try to stay clear of clog-removal products. They might look tempting in the commercials, but what those ads don’t tell you is that they can cause major erosion in your pipes. It is better to take care of them rather than using such explosives.

Space Your Showers

Try to put some time distance between two showers. When you wait at least 10 minutes, water pressure gets back to normal. Till then open the exhaust to absorb the moisture.

Keep An Eye On The Leaks And Drains

Water drips and occasional leaks can do major damage other than water wastage. It can cause damage to the fixtures, to the walls, and even to the walls and the furniture.

Try to fix the leaks as soon as you spot them if you can do them yourself, enlist professional help. But get it fixed as soon as possible.

Be Careful Of The Garbage Disposal

It is said that this needs to be said, but don’t throw away bones, food leftovers, or other dirty garbage in the sink while washing. Things such as eggshells, leftover cereal, and other sharp foods can act as a blade down the drain.

This can cause a lot of damage to the pipes and weaken the plumbing system.

Have Pipes Fixing Tools At Your Home

When you take a trip down the hardware store, buy some extra utensils to keep at home. This way, you will be able to handle the damage to some extent as soon as you spot it. If you cannot fix it entirely at yourself, you will at least be able to stop it.

Then you can call for professional help. They will then take care of other issues.

Invest In Drain Cleaning

Getting the drains cleaned at regular intervals allows you to take care of the plumbing system will help you preserve it in the long term.
